I'm of Indian descent, but...

.
I won't cook you curry. I like curry but I go to my Mama's house or the local Indian buffet if I want some. You are free to join me.

I don't speak Indian. FYI - no one does. Indian is not a language.

I am not a doctor or enginerd, nor have I married one...yet.

I cannot explain to you each Hindu belief and custom, mostly because I am not Hindu.

I have not watched Slumdog Millionaire.

What about you? What cultural stereotypes do you defy?

my problem is my red hair. people think i'm irish (which i'm not btw). it's surprising how many random comments i get, especially in the weeks leading up to st. patrick's day. rather than launching into a dissertation on melanin and recessive genes, i've taken to smiling and saying, "yeah, there might be irish me somewhere but i still don't drink green beer."

Sheri, what is your ethnic background?

Helen - I also don't watch Bollywood films, but for some reason, I like Korean dramedies.

LOVE it Susan! I can totally relate to all of your statements (minus the "Slumdog Millionaire" one ... btw, it really is a great movie) :)

i'm english on my dad's side and german (pennsylvania dutch) on my mom's. both families have been here a while though, so i guess there could be irish in there.

i love "i don't speak indian."

I'm sorry but i don't usually post comments on your blog but I just have to say this made me think of the other sunday when that man kindly interrupted us and asked you what "bollywood was anyway?"

I actually don't really mind when people ask me questions, as long as they don't invade my personal space. Besides, it makes for great blog fodder. =)
